Taking the God Plunge is how we show the world we are committed to Christ. The Bible clearly teaches us that baptism is the next step after making Jesus the leader and forgiver of your life. Baptism demonstrates publicly that you are all in for Him!
Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. – Colossians 2:12
God Plunge Party! is a special service where we celebrate through baptism the decisions children have made to put their trust in Jesus as their personal Savior. Family, friends, and small group leaders all join together to help celebrate this decision in a big way! THE PROCESS
Step 1: I am a Christian Now
Has your child expressed a desire to take the God Plunge? After your child has made a profession of faith here are some evidences of salvation:
-Understands the seriousness of sin and repents from their sins
-Understands why they need a savior
-Can articulate what Jesus did for them
-Decides to follow Jesus and make Him the leader of their life
Starting a relationship with Jesus and following Him is the most important decision your child will make. We want to express to our children that baptism is showing others publicly that God has changed our lives and forgiven our sin. It is important that our kids know baptism doesn't magically make you a Christ follower. But becoming a Christ follower is a decision made in your heart. A child who has made this decision understands that Jesus died on a cross to save us from our sins. We want kids to know only Jesus has the power to transform us inside first. Only those whose lives are transformed by Him should be baptized as an outward expression of their faith, commitment, and obedience to Him.
God designed parents to be the primary discipler. Therefore, we want to gift you and your child with a book entitled "I am a Christian: What Now." This book will serve as a resource to help you shepherd your child's heart as they follow Jesus. At Church on the Trail we want you to be encouraged and supported to be like a trail guide to your child in their faith journey. A trail guide travels with you and beside you on the trail. They don't stay back at the camp site or point you in the direction or just give you a map but they engage and go with you on the trail! That is exactly what we are meant to do with our kids in the journey of discipleship. This book is a great tool to take together on the journey as you guide your kids in walking on the trail daily with Jesus.
Step 2: Listen
If your child is ready to be baptized, listen to a “parents only” audio talk.
Step 3: Watch
Watch a baptism explanation video with your child.
Step 4: Meet with us
This is a great opportunity for us to talk with you and your child before moving to the final steps of baptism preparation. We want to answer any questions that you or your child may have and hear about their decision to trust Christ as their personal Savior.
